Self-isolation. Quaratine. Lockdown. Gov. Gavin Newsom issued the first statewide mandatory restrictions ordering California's nearly 40 million residents to stay home to help combat the outbreak. Schools in California is expected to stay closed for the rest of the academic year as well.

Accompanying this wave has been a spike in racist terms, memes and news articles targeting Asian communities in California. Asian Americans report being spit on, yelled at, even threatened in the streets. There has been increased violent targeting of Asian businesses.

We developed a solution that may lessen the uncertainties of the Asian Community due to Coronavirus pandemic. Pinoy California is a mobile app that locates nearby Asian stores and restaurants where you can order goods to be delivered right at your doorstep. The team behind this service aims to assist Filipino-American businesses engage with their neighborhood using a modernized, remote approach. This will enable their local community to practice the "Bayanihan" Filipino value, in a virtual way.

Pinoy California has community features wherein a store owner can reach out to nearby customers without having them physically go to their store. Owners can also manage their business from the comfort of their homes. This set up is very helpful in keeping social distancing and at the same time allows a store to operate its businesses with minimal workforce.

Aside from the ease of communication with customers, the platform allows business owners to create offers and organize virtual meet-ups to increase engagement with their neighborhood. They can also create push campaigns to be shown to nearby customers and random users within the Californian state.
